Healthy Yogurt Parfaits

One of the most popular desserts (not desert) in my family that can also swap for a healthy breakfast, lunch or snack are homemade yogurt parfaits. This delicious go-to meal can please the pickiest of eaters, because you can allow your children to make their own, putting in whatever fruits they like or even eating everything separate. To make this super nutritious treat, I focus on not using yogurt made from cows because dairy is extremely inflammatory to the body and is a culprit for creating a leaky gut. It also is one the crucial foods I eliminate in my patients who suffer from yeast overgrowth, digestive issues, leaky gut and most chronic health issues. If you want to learn more about yeast overgrowth or leaky gut simply go here  where I go more in depth for you.

The good news is yogurt can still be eaten. The best yogurt to make is homemade coconut fermented yogurt which to be honest, I am in the midst of mastering to perfection and once I do, I will blog about it! The second back up yogurt is to buy an organic yogurt made from coconut milk not cow milk. Coconut is a very healthy food especially for leaky guts and chronic health issues, but it also prevents many sicknesses because it replaces diary which causes them. Coconut also is high in healthy nutrients such as medium chain fatty acids which benefit the body greatly such as decrease inflammation in the body, preventing cancer, improve memory and brain function and more! Stay tuned as next week I will be blogging about coconut and coconut oil and the many benefits it brings to your body.

I use certified organic coconut yogurt, fruit and wholesome granola (no sugars or junk added to any of these). Avoid companies like Dannon and YoPlait yogurts that load their products with harmful sugars, fillers and additives. Read labels and stay away from dairy. Choose brands that make their coconut yogurt from coconut milk and leave out antibiotics, growth hormones, artificial flavoring and coloring , fillers and bad sugars. Try So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk Yogurt, So Delicious Cultured Coconut Kefir, So Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk Greek Yogurt, or So Delicious Cultured Almond Milk Yogurt. Also, try to buy the plain yogurts and not sweetened with vanilla or chocolate, because these flavored yogurts ups the sugar content. You can always sweeten your yogurt parfait naturally. This really is an excellent swap for a healthy dessert (not a healthy desert) instead of an unhealthy one.
