Fresh Homemade Apple Cider

This recipe is one of my oldest son’s favorites. He loves apple cider, but was so upset to read the ingredients in the store bought kind (if you haven’t looked at them, you should). This recipe is using wholesome ingredients and if you use all certified organic, it ups the health factor. I personally use certified organic Simply Organic spices, 100% Maple Syrup and organic apples juice that we juice in my Breville Juicer– love love love my juicer. Hope you enjoy a cup of hot apple cider as much as my son and I do! You can click links in recipe to find the ingredients I use to make this easier. Keep warm. Eat healthy.

Ingredients

1 gallon organic apple juice (or juice apples)
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon whole cloves
1 orange peel
1 lemon peel
100 % Real Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

Put apple juice in large pot. Add real maple syrup if you want to sweeten and thicken it up. (about 1/4 cup but you decide how much) but not needed to be done.  Put other ingredients which are your spices into a cut cheese cloth square, fold and tie with a string to make a spice ball. This spice ball can be put into the apple juice pot and let his heat up for about 10 minutes. Do not boil.

Fresh Homemade Hot Apple Cider

Cold wind is breezing through. Football, soccer and fall sports may have you thinking of a warm mug of apple cider. Make it fresh, organic and as healthy as you can. Try to skip on the ones loaded with chemicals and bad sugars. Make a yummy batch from the following two choices.. easy and delicious! My family loves the second method. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 1 gallon organic apple juice (or juice apples)
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon sticks, more for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 orange peel
  • 1 lemon peel
  • 100 % Real Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Put apple juice in large pot. Add real maple syrup if you want to sweeten and thicken it up. (about 1/4 cup but you decide how much) but not needed to be done.
  2. 2. Put other ingredients which are your spices into a cut cheese cloth square, fold and tie with a string to make a spice ball. This spice ball can be put into the apple juice pot and let his heat up for about 10 minutes. Do not boil.
  3. or...
  4. You can opt not to make the spice ball and instead, combine all ingredients above into pot and simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove spices by straining. Ladle into mugs and garnish with fresh cinnamon sticks for each serving, if desired.
